"Art isn't about good
artwork but about being artistic. It's not about pretty pictures alone. It's about the attitude and sensitivities that a work of art may evoke. It's about giving the viewer something that they never could imagine."

I’m Marie Blocker. I grew up in Katy, Texas, and went on to study Fine Art and Graphic Design at the University of Texas in Austin. I specialize in acrylic works that have rich, lively hues and many focus on water scenes. My works have a painterly feel from using a pallet knife that excites and delights the eye. Oil is another favored medium.

I have always liked to paint and draw. As a young child my favorite activities to while away the hours were drawing and creating artistic objects. Being a mother of a teenage son, wife and full-time employee, it's hard to find time to create these days. However, early in 2007 I opened my studio space at the Art House which gives me a special place to use my artist talent and create. I also teach painting, drawing and mixed media as well as instruct on the Masters to students young and old. At various special events like the McKinney Jazz Festival in June I can be seen not only demonstrating my skill but also providing visiting young artists an opportunity to try painting, too.

Besides displaying my work at the Art House for a Second Saturday Art Walk Event, I have also had some of my work on display at the McKinney Avenue Contemporary (MAC) in downtown Dallas.
